Legislators: Heal Missouri!

The Missouri General Assembly is poised to do something very foolish -- deny healthcare to hundreds of thousands of our friends and neighbors.

Please call your state legislators NOW and tell them that you support Medicaid expansion to 138% of the federal poverty level.  See background information below.

Here's a quick link to find your MO State Representative and Senator.

Forum Held on Utilities’ Greedy Legislative Agenda

Legislators are considering complicated bills this session to make major changes to benefit utility companies.  Consumers may not have legions of lobbyists, but the Consumers Council of Missouri has the interests of individual consumers at heart.  To demonstrate that, CCM held a forum Friday, March 29, with two allied groups -- Missouri Association for Social Welfare and AARP -- to highlight hardships the 43 percent increase in electricity rates over the past five years have caused for Missouri's families.

Ask Your Legislators to Oppose Anti-Consumer Bills

A rash of anti-consumer bills for utilities – electric, gas and water -- are under consideration by the Missouri General Assembly.  Those of most concern to CCM, who advocates for the interests of individual consumers collectively, are being presented under the guise of an Infrastructure System Replacement Surcharge, commonly referred to as ISRS [ISS-russ].  An ISRS is a fee added to customers’ bills to cover the cost of replacing pipes or structures that are worn, have been damaged or are inadequate for other reasons.  The fee allows the utility to get more money sooner than

Missouri Medicaid Coalition Needs Your Help! Volunteer Now

Missouri's legislators are on spring break from Friday, March 15 until Monday, March 25.  The legislative session is half over and much remains to be done to persuade the legislature to expand Medicaid to 260,000 uninsured working Missourians can gain coverage.

A Senate committee has voted down yet another bill to expand Medicaid. However, other bills are under consideration that would allow Medicaid expansion.  Legislators who are in their home districts over the next week must continue to hear that their constituents want to see Medicaid expanded in Missouri.

Here's how you can help:

1.  Contact your legislators online.  To find out who your legislators are click here

2.  Sign the petition for Missouri Medicaid at Change.org

3.  Call or visit your legislators at home.  Spring break is a great time to contact your state representatives and state senators, while they are home in their districts. You can look up your legislators' names and contact information at http://www.senate.mo.gov. Remember to contact your legislators at home, not in Jefferson City. After you've called or visited, email jen@mohealthcareforall.org.

4.  Sign up for a phonebank. Help call health care supporters so they can contact their legislators about expanding Medicaid. Phonebanks are being held in St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, and Springfield from 5:30-8:30 pm on the following dates:

Wednesday, March 20
Tuesday, March 26
Wednesday, April 3
Tuesday, April 9
Wednesday, April 17
Tuesday, April 23
Wednesday, May 1

If you can volunteer, please e-mail jen@mohealthcareforall.org.
