On March 21, 2025, Consumers Council filed a motion to intervene in Liberty Electric’s proposed rate increase. Liberty initially filed a rate increase request on Nov. 6, 2024, for $92.1 million, an increase of +15.99%. They later filed an amended request which, according to the Office of Public Counsel and Liberty’s own local public hearing notice, will result in an increase of 31.05%, approximately $47.41 per household.
In addition to this extraordinarily high request, the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) recently announced an investigation into Liberty’s electric, water, and natural gas customer service and billing practices.
